Universal Orlando Overview

If you’re here, then you’re probably considering a trip to Universal Orlando, which means you’re a very fun person! Universal Orlando was tailor made for fun people like you! With 3 epic theme parks, there’s something for everyone at Universal and we are so excited to tell you all about this great destination. As travel professionals, we are dedicated to learning the ins and outs of every destination we book so that we can help our clients maximize their vacation experience. We’re excited to share our expertise with you so that you can create vacation memories that will last a lifetime! Let’s start with an overview of Universal Orlando Resort.

3 Epic Theme Parks

Universal is home to 3 epic theme parks: Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and Universal’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park. Universal Studios Florida is divided into 8 sections: Production Central, Hollywood, New York, San Francisco, World Expo, Springfield: Home of the Simpsons, Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley. Diagon Alley is by far the most popular section of the park and, if you’re a Harry Potter fan, it’s a cant-miss experience! You’ll be immersed in the thrill of Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringott’s and you’ll visit iconic locations such as Ollivander’s Wand Shop, Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour, the Leaky Cauldron, and more! On your way out of Diagon Alley, you might even see the Knight Bus driver and Kreacher the house elf! Even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan, there’s plenty to enjoy at Universal Studios. Roller coaster lovers will be thrilled by the Hollywood Rip Ride Rock-It. Kids will love Men In Black: Alien Attack, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, and more. And, aside from all the great attractions, there is so much to see as the park is themed down to the smallest detail. You truly will feel like you’re living life on a movie set at Universal Studios Florida!

The next Universal theme park (and my personal favorite) is Islands of Adventure. Islands of Adventure is divided into–you guessed it–themed islands of fun. My favorite sections are Marvel Superhero Island (home of the Hulk coaster) and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Hogsmeade. Hogsmeade is home to my favorite roller coaster of all time: Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. It’s also home to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Flight of the Hippogriff, and Three Broomsticks as well as several themed shops such as Honeydukes, etc. Kids will love the Jurassic Park island as well as Seuss Landing and Toon Lagoon. And, don’t forget the fun of the Lost Continent! Islands of Adventure, like Universal Studios, is themed down to the smallest detail and offers a lot of great places to shop, eat, and be entertained.

The final Universal theme park is Universal’s Volcano Bay Water Theme Park. In my opinion, Volcano Bay is the best water park in Orlando! It has great slides, water coasters, a wave pool, an awesome lazy river, and great places to lounge around and relax. And the Tapu Tapu virtual queue system allows you to make the most of your time in the parks. Like the other Universal parks, Volcano Bay is elaborately themed and has its own backstory complete with a Volcano that “erupts” periodically. It’s the perfect place to spend a relaxing day soaking up the sun!

Onsite Hotels

Universal is home to 8 onsite resort hotels in 4 categories: Value, Prime Value, Preferred, and Premier. The 2 newest resorts onsite are the value hotels: Endless Summer Resort–Surfside and Endless Summer Resort–Dockside. These hotels both offer standard rooms and 2 bedroom suites at an attractive price point. The 2 prime value hotels are Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Universal’s Aventura Hotel. Cabana Bay has a retro beach resort theme and is the perfect place to stay if you want easy access to Volcano Bay, 2 amazing onsite pools, and an onsite bowling alley! Cabana Bay also offers standard rooms as well as family suites and 2 bedroom suites. Aventura is sleek and modern and offers standard rooms, suite-style accommodations, and a rooftop bar overlooking the city. Sapphire Falls stands alone in the preferred category and is themed after the Caribbean islands. It’s a tranquil, relaxing hotel with the largest pool onsite, water taxi transportation to the 2 main theme parks, and great onsite dining options. The 3 premier resorts are Royal Pacific, Hard Rock Hotel, and Portofino Bay Resort. Royal Pacific is themed after the pacific islands and offers standard rooms as well as suite style accommodations, including kids suites themed after Jurassic World. Hard Rock Hotel is themed after rock royalty and offers standard rooms, suite style accommodations, and a pool with water slide and underwater speakers. Portofino Bay is elegant and refined and offers standard rooms and suites, including kids suites themed after Despicable Me. All 3 premier resorts are within walking distance of the 2 main parks, but they also offer water taxi transportation. Best of all: they include Unlimited Express Pass FREE in the cost of your stay. This allows you to skip the standby line at most rides and attractions. All of Universal’s onsite resorts offer complimentary early entry to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Volcano Bay with valid park admission as well as complimentary transportation to all 3 parks and CityWalk.

CityWalk

Speaking of CityWalk, it’s the center for dining, entertainment, and nightlife at Universal Orlando Resort. Conveniently located between the entrances to the 2 main parks, CityWalk houses a movie theater, mini golf, and many restaurants, shops, and lounges. With options like Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, Hard Rock Cafe, VooDoo Donuts, and more, there’s something for every member of the family at CityWalk!
